Mr. Andy Heise became a valued member of our team in February 2022, assuming the role of Senior Staff Engineer. Holding a master’s and bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering with a specialization in Water Resources from Cal Poly Humboldt, Andy also possesses an Engineering-in-Training (EIT) certificate and a Part 107 Commercial Remote Pilot Certificate. During his academic pursuit, he diversified his knowledge with Minors in Geology and Geospatial Analysis. Andy’s professional expertise encompasses a broad spectrum, including but not limited to wastewater treatment, public water systems, hydraulics, water quality sampling, water resources management, stormwater and groundwater modeling, utilization of ESRI Based Software, Civil 3D, proficiency in R Programming Language, and HEC-HMS, HEC RAS, and EPA SWMM.
Andy’s career at LACO began as a Staff Geologist, where he supported critical hydrogeological studies for Humboldt County. His work included investigating the impacts of groundwater pumping on streamflow, overseeing Cone Penetration Testing (CPT), conducting Phase I site assessments, performing river channel surveys, gauging streamflow, contributing to wastewater treatment feasibility evaluations, and preparing project cost estimates.
In August 2023, he transitioned to Staff Engineer, focusing primarily on water resources engineering. He has since advanced to Senior Staff Engineer, delivering a wide range of complex projects for municipalities, special districts, and tribal nations. His notable contributions include:
- Hydrologic and stormwater modeling using HEC-HMS and EPA SWMM for the City of Willits and the Bear River Band of Rohnerville Rancheria.
- Well siting, drilling, and construction management for Lake County Special Districts and the Kashia Band of the Pomo Indians.
- Wastewater treatment feasibility and capacity studies for Lake County Special Districts, Round Valley Indian Tribe, and Orick Community Services District.
- 1D and 2D river hydraulic modeling in support of flood risk reduction, habitat restoration, and regulatory compliance projects.
This progression highlights Andy’s strong technical foundation in geology and his growth into a versatile water resource engineer skilled in modeling, field investigations, and project delivery for both public and tribal clients.
