California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA)
From 2018 to 2026, LACO was proud to provide environmental compliance services (including CEQA and NEPA) to the Southern Humboldt Community Healthcare District (SHCHD or District) to support development of a new two-story, approximately 50,000-square-foot community hospital and medical office building with heliport within the unincorporated community of Garberville in Humboldt County, California.
The project is proposed to comply with seismic requirements and would provide much needed and expanded services to the community, including expanded acute care and emergency room services, imaging, lab, and pharmacy. The facility would replace existing hospital and clinic spaces in Garberville. Following development of the new hospital and medical office building on the subject site, the former spaces would continue to be utilized by the District for skilled nursing services. The new facility is proposed to be operational in 2029. The helistop would be used for transport of emergent patients and for training for EMS and fire department personnel.
LACO’s services included preparation of an Initial Study pursuant to CEQA and an Environmental Overview pursuant to NEPA and subconsultant management related to the preparation of technical studies. Additionally, LACO has and continues to serve the District with land surveying services for the project.
